Commencement

 

Time and Venue

The June 20 th 2009 Commencement Ceremony will begin with the Processional at 10:00 am at Sports and Recreational Center, Belmopan Campus.

The June 21st 2009 Commencement Ceremony wil begin with the Processional at 2:00 pm at the Parish Hall.

Requirements to Participate

• Graduate at the end of the Summer Semester 2008, August Semester 2008 or January Semester 2009
• File an approved application for a degree. For Application Deadlines see the academic calendar or call:
• the Registar's Office, Belmopan Central Campus at 822-1100 extensions. 206, 208, 232
• The Records Office, Belize City Campus at 223-0256 extension 114
• UB Toledo at 702-2720

Rehearsal

Graduation rehearal will be held Friday, June 13th at the Recreation and Events Center on the Central Campus(Gymnasium), Belmopan at 9:00 a.m. for candidates from the Belize City and Belmopan Campuses. The rehearsal will cover the processional and other student concerns, and will confirm your place in the lineup.UB will provide buses to bring students from Belize City and San Ignacio and back for the practice. Punta Gorda prospective graduates are asked to kindly contact the campus administrator or Student Affairs Coordinator for rehearsal date, time and venue.

Note

If you plan to to participate in the graduation ceremony you must attend the practice or you will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. A card system will be used for the conferring of degrees and you will be given a specially prepared card with your name at the practice. You will be required to bring the card to the ceremony the following day. If you cannot attend the practice due to religious beliefs, please inform the Office of Student Services at 822-1000 Ext. 212 (Belmopan, Belize City and Central Farm ) or the Campus Administrator or Student Affairs Coordinator (Punta Gorda) and make arrangements to send someone on your behalf.

DO NOT PLAN TO MISS THE PRACTICE AND EXPECT ATTEND THE CEREMONY!

Invitations

Prospective graduates for the Belmopan Ceremony will receive 4 invitations each, two reserved for the parents and two regular. Invitations must be presented at the door. You are asked to please cooperate by understanding that one invitation is needed for each guest. We will be graduating over 500 students; therefore seating space will be limited.

Punta Gorda prospective graduates, please contact the Campus Administrator or Student Affairs Coordinator for information.

Diplomas

Diplomas will not be given out during the graduation ceremonies. Diplomas will be issued upon return of gowns and caps on Monday to Friday, June 22nd to 26th 2009 at the Records Office at the three campuses.

Dress Code

Standard dress code for the graduation will be as follows: female, a dress that will not hang below the gown's hemline; male, shirt with tie, black or dark coloured trousers and shoes.

Photographers

Only professional photographers contacted by the University of Belize and provided with identification tags will be allowed to take pictures up front during the ceremony. Family and friends must use the side areas to take photographs. This is particularly important during the handing out of diploma covers in order that no one gets in the way of candidates walking to and from the stage. The professional photographers will be invited to attend the practice so that you may make arrangements to get you photos taken during the Graduation Ceremony.

Honor Cords

White honor cords will be awared to candidates with a GPA of 3.25-3.49(Cum Laude). Gold honor cords will be awarded to candidates with a GPA of 3.5 to 3.75(Magna Cum Laude) Purple honor cords will be awared to candidates with a GPA of 3.76 to 4.0(Summa Cum Laude). Honor Cords will be distributed at the graduation practice on Friday 13th 2009 (Belmopan Campus) .
