CXC Excellence:
The Government of Belize honours all high school graduates with six or more CXC passes and grades of 1,2 and 3 with tuition scholarships for their entire Associate Degree. These student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above to maintain this scholarship and must provide the Ministry with a grade report every semester. Students bring in two copies of their CXC certificates to the Offices of Student Affairs to get on the list of CXC scholars and then can register without paying tuition. If such students have paid tuition, they will get it refunded. Students are responsible for all other fees.
Free 2nd Year Tuition - Associate Degree
The Government pays the tuition for every Associate Degree Student who studies full time and has completed 30 credits of course work. These are considered second year students. These students must take a minimum of 12 credits every semester and they must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The Office of Accounts automatically calculates students’ credits and bills the government for their tuition once they complete 30 credit hours and meet the other requirements stipulated above.
Full Tuition Scholarship - Bachelor Degree
The Ministry of Education offers over 100 new Tuition Scholarships to UB Bachelor students every year. The Deadline for submission of forms is the first week of July. For further information contact the Tertiary Department in the Ministry of Education. Forms are available at all Student Affairs Offices. Recipients must show financial need and must have at least a GPA of 3.0 and maintain the GPA while on scholarship.
Work Scholarship
This scholarship is tenable for one academic year at a time for up to 2 years and is reviewed on a semester by semester basis. Only full-time students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 qualify. The Work scholarship covers a total of $712.00 for Bachelor students and $412 for Associate students and is credited to students’ account after work is completed. Application forms are available at all Office of Student Services at any time. The deadline for application for the August semester is the middle of June and the deadline for the January semester is the middle of December.
The Trindad Sanchez Scholarship
This scholarship is offered to students from the August Pine Ridge Village in the Orange Walk District in memory of past UB student, Trinidad Sanchez who was violently murdered in gang violence in the village. The recipient must be from August Pine Ridge, demonstrate financial need and academic strength and must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. Application forms are available at all Offices of Student Affairs at any time. The deadline for applications is the Mid-May.
The UB Scholarship Fund
The Development Office of UB has raised a fund from the business community. Every August students with GPAs above 3.0 and with financial need can apply for small financial assistance from the fund. Application forms are available from all Offices of Student Affairs. Please note that the availibilty of these grants depend on fund availability.
UB Full Sports Scholarship
This scholarship is tenable for duration of study toward one degree only. It is reviewed on a semester by semester basis. Only full-time students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 qualify. Applicants must be currently participating actively and excellently in sports. This scholarship covers tuition, fees and books. Application forms are available at all Offices of Student Affairs at any time. The deadline to apply is the middle of June. This scholarship is offered every two years or when the current recipient graduates.
Trinidad De La Fuerte Scholarship
The Department of Information Technology at UB offers a $1,000 grant to an Associate Degree student in Information Technology. The recipient must have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. Application forms are available at the IT department or at all Offices of Student Affairs. Deadline for application is the end of June every year.
Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT)
PACT o ffers opportunities for students who pursue Associate and Bachelor Degrees in Protected Areas or Natural Resources Management, Sustainable Development, Environmental Education or Conservation. Applicants must be in good health, at least 18 years old, and have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Community service is required. The deadline for application is the middle of March. Forms are available from all Student Affairs Offices or PACT.
BEL Scholarship
These scholarships are for UB students accepted into the Associates and Bachelors programs. Students must be Belizean, must have and maintain a GPA 3.0 or above and must demonstrate financial need. Deadline for application is the end of June. Forms are available from all Student Affairs Offices or BEL.
Belize/Cuba Scholarship Program
- You must first apply to a university of your choosing and be accepted in a bachelor’s program before applying for the scholarship.
- Bachelor’s Level Scholarships for all majors. (3.0 GPA required)
- Qualifying Belizean students will be placed in Universities within Cuba for 5 consecutive years (six years if the candidate does not speak Spanish)
- Covers travel and all university expenses.
- Application forms available from all Offices of Student Affairs and the MOE. The deadline is third week of July.
Belize/Mexico Scholarship Program
- You must first apply to a university of your choosing and be accepted in a bachelor’s program before applying for the scholarship.
- Covers travel, all university expenses, and Room and Board.

Commonwealth Fellowship Scholarship
- You must first apply to a university of your choosing and be accepted in a Graduate Program in a university of a commonwealth country before applying for the scholarship.
- Covers travel, all university expenses, and Room and Board.
- Contact The office of Governance New Administration Building for more information. (Tel: 822-2206) Application forms are available from all Offices of Student Affairs.
Professional and Technical Scholarship
- 10 scholarships every year to the University of The West Indies.
- You must first apply to the university and be accepted into the programme of your choice before applying for the scholarship.
- Two versions of this scholarship exist: Full scholarship of tuition and personal expenses or Economic cost of 80% tuition paid.
- Application forms available from MOE and all Student Affairs Offices. For more information, contact the Tertiary Department in the Ministry of Education.
Belize Open Scholarship
- Awarded to the person with the highest scores in the CAPE examination.
- Student must take at least three CAPE examination along with English in June.
- Must have the proposed course of study and the choice of university approved by the MOE.
- Application forms available from the Office of Student Affairs.
Scholarships through the Minitry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers scholarship programmes for short courses and Post Graduate Degrees in countries such as Taiwan, Chile, Panama, Spain and India.
