Office of the Provost

Henry N. Anderson
The Provost

Greetings and welcome to the University of Belize. We are a multi campus university with a diversified student population of some 2,400 students. We have four academic faculties: Faculty of Education & Arts, Faculty of Nursing and Allied Health, Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. We also have a RegionalLanguageCenter and an Institute of Marine Studies.

You are visiting us at a very exciting time in our development. We are currently finalizing our strategic plan for the next five years. Over that time we see the University of Belize increasing its participation in the development of Belize and the region via the development relevant academic programs, research and service. Although a relatively small institution, we are committed to excellence in all that we do and strive to create knowledge that will shape the future.

We invite you to visit our website site or contact us so you can experience what we are all about. We are open to new ideas and will value your feedback so we can improve our academic programs and services.

Department of Public Safety

The Public Safety Department is the unit that is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment at the University of Belize. Our goal is to ensure an environment in which all members of the campus community can safely study, work and live.

Our Department is comprised of sworn Public Safety Officers who have received their law enforcement authority according to the provisions of the Belize Revised Statutes. In addition, these Officers have received special training in First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Response for incidents such as Bomb Threats, Fire, and Hurricane Preparedness, supporting NEMO, CEMO and other respected emergency management committees. In the event of an emergency, the Department aims to preserve life and property, and to mitigate its impact on the country and its people in order to facilitate the return to normalcy. The Department is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Among other issues, the Department is also involved in educating the University Community, with relevant topics such as security awareness; crime prevention programs; escort programs; new student orientation; victim assistance programs, in order to aid crime victims in areas of criminal prosecution; community policy programs; and of course dignitary protection for distinguished visitors to the University.
