The Office of Development is tasked with the core responsibility of seeking and retaining funds, both cash and in-kind, to be used toward the overall development of the University. A compliment of four (4) comprises its staff. These include: a Director of Development, an External Relations Officer and a Secretary. In addition the University's Public Relations Officer is attached to the office. Collectively, they represent the University's Development Team.
Given the function of the Office of Development, many linkages are forged within a diversity of areas. The Director is instrumental in: identifying potential donors, developing a working relationship and securing donations and contributions. Further activities of the department include: exploring innovative ways to augment the University's income earning capacities, making recommendations toward improving existing cost centers, identifying funding sources that can result in the establishment of new academic programmes, producing a development plan for the University, establishing links with other institutions of higher learning via Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) and assisting in other matters that bolster the University's general wherewithal.
The Public Relations office is vested with the responsibility of managing the public relations activities of the University. Its function is akin to that of a conduit for the: effective, unbridled and consistent flow of information throughout the university, as well as amongst the community at-large. This entails the responsibility of maintaining positive relations with the public. Another responsibility includes developing and delivering publications, press and media communications, calendars, special promotions and general information on related activities. In sum the office produces and disseminates information via multiple channels including: press releases, newsletters, media appearances and other activities. The office is at the forefront of serving as the public contact, regarding University issues.
