Bachelor Degree in Public Sector Management (for EMPLOYEES Only)

The Bachelor in Public Sector Management program consists of 129 credit hours —60 credit hours at the Associate Degree level & 69 credit hours at the Bachelor’s level. This program is designed for completion within a 2.5 years period.
Vision
To produce a cadre of high quality, independent thinking graduates that will be capable of transforming public sector activities as it relates to efficiency and productivity in Belize, to an internationally accepted level.
Goals
To provide students with relevant training in public sector management by equipping them with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to become functional administrators in the public sector, nonprofit sector, and even in the private sector.
Objectives
- Develop knowledge, understanding and appreciation through general requirement courses.
- Attain a thorough understanding of local, regional, and international public sector management principles.
- Gain an insight into the workings of public management functions and principles in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness of Belize’ bureaucratic machinery.
- Engage in individual and group research activities to explore public sector management issues and enhance verbal and written communication.
- Understand the importance of a properly functioning public sector in the broader context of national development.
- Develop and implement strategic plans, critically analyse public sector issues and make informed and rational decisions.
- Develop a sense of professionalism, diligence, responsibility and accountability as it pertains to the civil servant’s code of conduct.
Criteria to Apply
- Completed Associate Degree in Business Science, Business Management, Business Administration, or an equivalent field of study.
- Where an employee possesses an Associate Degree that is not equivalent, such person may be required to take some Associate Degree level courses that are substantive for the BPSM program.
- At least 3 years of work experience in Public or Private Sector.
Program Model
Each course runs for a period of 45 hours. Students will be doing only 2 courses at a time.
Course 1
One 2.5 session weekly for 15 weeks
Course 2
Three sessions weekly for 5 weeks
Course 3
Three sessions Weekly for 5 weeks
Course 4
Three sessions weekly for 5 weeks
Class Hour
Very accommodating for employees. Classes held after regular working hours.
Academic Requirements
Each student must acquire a minimum grade of ‘C+’ for professional courses and a minimum grade of ‘C’ for all other courses.
