UB Imprint Vol 54: On June 15th, the University of Belize held its Twenty-Sixth Graduation Ceremony for 1041 students – the Class of 2019 – at the colorful and packed Belize Civic Center

This commencement exercise was historic for the University of Belize (UB). Not only did the University confer diplomas, certificates and degrees to its largest graduating body but also, the University conferred sixteen (16) MBA Degrees to its first cohort of graduate students, its first Honorary Doctoral Degree to Belize’s Governor General, His Excellency, Sir Colville Young, in recognition of his outstanding public service to Belize and it awarded the Oak Foundation of Switzerland with its inaugural Outstanding Philanthropy Award in recognition of their significant contribution to the University.

It was a momentous weekend for the graduates, for the University and for Belize, proving that the University’s mission and strategic plan of building and empowering Belize is a living one.

In his Presidential address, the University’s President, Professor Emeritus Clement Sankat congratulated the students and told them that even though the graduation was the culmination of a long and challenging but ultimately rewarding journey, it was not the end. In fact, it was the just the beginning.

“As you leave our University Community and go into the world of work, continue to equip yourself to follow your dreams. The road ahead is long and winding, especially in this new world of uncertainty, but with the preparation we have given to you, you are positioned to make the right decisions and navigate your journey so that it is easier and successful bringing you to the destination of your dreams.”

The Commencement speaker, Dr. Richard A Carvajal – President of Valdosta State University, reminded the graduates in his address, “You are empowered leaders… You have the skills and attributes needed to be the next generation of leaders who can not only change UB or even Belize, but you can be the class that changes the world.”

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the administration, staff and faculty of the University of Belize, UB’s President, Professor Emeritus Clement Sankat would like to once again congratulate all graduates on reaching this milestone. The University is incredibly proud of each of you and we wish you all the best in all your future endeavors!

Another graduation ceremony was recently held for the Punta Gorda Campus on June 23, 2019.
