The UB Library is committed to the advancement of knowledge through access to and the management of information that promotes academic excellence and nation building.  The library currently operates 4 branches: UB Belmopan Headquarters; UB Belize (Faculty of Management and Social Science – FMSS Library); UB Central Farm; and UB Toledo Library.  These libraries were established to preserve, enrich, and shape the past, present, and future of the University.

Mission Statement – The University of Belize Library is committed to provide access to and delivery of information resources to UB Administrators, Faculty, Students and Staff in support of the University’s teaching and research mission.  By creating a setting conducive to learning, discovery, and cultural life, the library assists patrons to achieve professional goals.  The library provides resources and services to non-UB users to the extent possible.

Services

We have various materials available that we categorize in two groups Circulating and non- circulating materials:
Circulating: Books that can be taken out of the library through our check- out and check- in system. Includes:

  • General Collection
  • Juvenile Collection

Only book that are in the Circulating category can be borrowed/ taken out of the library.

Non-Circulating: Books/ materials that can be borrowed but used only with in library. Includes:

  • Textbooks
  • Reference books
  • Belize books
  • Periodicals
  • Vertical
  • Audio Visual
  • Newspapers

Patrons Can view the various materials we have in our collection by using the KOHA online Catalog. https://belize.kohalibrary.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-main.pl

Koha- Online library database that allows students/ Staff to explore the library collections and to find basic information on books in the UB library.

Requirements to Use UB Library Materials

• Returning students (Valid student ID)
• New students (Proof of registration and Any Valid Id E.g Social security, Drivers license, Passport)

Students are allowed to borrow up to 3 books at a time.
Students have a period of up to 28 days to return a borrowed book (any time after that an overdue fee of $0.25 is charged until book is returned or student renews borrowing period)

Multi- media center – computer lab for students to conduct research, for B. I’s and general use

Audio Visual room– a room for the showing of videos or for Visual Aids or for small conferences.

Bibliographic Instructions– Hands on training on the various database (EBSCOhost, HINARI, VHL) also instructional guide on how to utilize the APA (American Psychological association) and MLA (Modern Language Association) formats.

Library tours– General walk through of the library, collections and other services provided by the library.
