Eligibility for Admissions

Who can apply to the University of Belize (UB)?

  • Any candidate with an interest in learning and who meet the admissions requirements for the program the candidate wishes to study. please view the preliminary requirements here: https://www.ub.edu.bz/admissions/program-requirements/
  • UB caters to Local and International candidates with a strong ambition to pursue undergraduate of graduate studies in a student-centered learning environment.

Should I apply online or in person (paper- based)?

An applicant may choose to apply EITHER online or download and submit a paper-based application form in-person. Please access either modality below by clicking on the following link:

When should I apply?

  • January – May for August admission and September – November for January admission.
  • Early applications are highly recommended.

How long after applying will I get an admission response?

Applicants receive an emailed response within 15 business days of applying. This does not apply to the Faculty of Health Sciences programs. Applicants must check their spam and junk mail before following up on an admission response at the University.

What is the program-specific admission requirements?

Program Requirements

When does the semester start?

  • The August (Fall) Semester begins the third week of August and the January (Spring) Semester begins third week of January.
  • Registration for classes usually runs for the first two weeks of the semester.

What is the next step after I receive an admission offer?

After getting accepted into UB the next step is to pay your Commitment Deposit – this fee is a portion of your first semester fees.

Am I required to take the UB Placement Exam?

All first-year students who have never done College Level Math and English Courses are required to take UB’s Placement Exams for Math and English. However, students who HAVE taken ATLIB are NOT required to take the UB Placement Exams.

If I was accepted to UB and I missed the Placement Exams, is my acceptance still valid?

Yes, your acceptance is still valid. Admission acceptance is valid for one year. Additionally, the Placement Exams are offered every two months and those who miss the Exams are required to register when they are next offered. Kindly contact [email protected] for further information on Placement.

Can I apply to UB if I did not sign up for ATLIB?

Yes.

What should I do if I did not get accepted for my program?

If you did not get accepted to the program you applied, kindly read your letter carefully and following the recommendation made by the Admissions Team.

Can I change my program after I get accepted into UB?

Yes, you can change your program – kindly contact the admissions Office at [email protected]  for the details.

What happen if my application is incomplete?

If your application is incomplete, you will be notified and required to submit any outstanding document(s) by the specified deadline.

Orientation

Is Orientation mandatory?

  • Yes, Orientations is mandatory for all New Students. Undergraduate and Graduate Students have separate Orientations.

When exactly is the Orientation?

  • Usually the first week of Agust.

Orientation is usually delivered through a blended modality.

Transfer of Credits into UB

Can my credits be transferred to UB?

  • The University accepts transferrable credits from other local and international institutions. Local applicants may click on the following link to navigate the Course Transfer Matrix to view the courses that qualify for transfer into UB: https://portal.ub.edu.bz/

When will I know which of my credits were transferred to my program?

  • This information is provided during your New Student Faculty Orientation when you complete your appointment with your assigned Academic Advisor.

Are my UB credits transferable outside of Belize?

Yes, the University of Belize produces over 1,000 graduates annually. While many remain in Belize, some also venture into further studies abroad and their credits usually transfer. We encourage our students to ensure that they receive all the necessary details of their admission from the universities they are planning to attend.

Does UB Offer Graduate programs?

Yes, UB currently offers two Master’s programs: the Master of Business Administration and the Master’s in Educational Leadership. Applications for these programs open annually from January to May.

How much does an Associate Degree program cost?

What financial assistance are available to accepted students?

Students can benefit from:
• UB Payment Plan of 25% per month – four consecutive instalments.

What will my class schedule look like after enrolment?

Students have full control over their schedule and self-register for classes based on their Program Sequence. All New Students are required to attend the University’s Orientation Sessions where they learn the details of the registration process.

Will the classes be online or face-to-face?

Majority of our programs have a blended modality. However, some programs are a combination of face-to-face and online classes.

What is the deadline to request a Deferral of my acceptance?

January 01st – 14th For January Admission

August 01st – 14th For August Admission

How long are the programs?

Full-Time Associate programs are 2-years.
Full-Time Bachelor’s programs ranges from 2 – 5 years.
Certificate and Diploma programs range from 1.5 years – 2 years.
Graduate programs are usually 2 years.

Academic Advising

Who is my Advisor?

  • You will be meet your Academic Advisor during your Orientation.

What should I do if I cannot get in contact with my advisor?

  • Contact your faculty office as soon as possible.

Bachelor in Nursing Program

Does the Bachelor in Nursing program have an age requirement?

  • Yes! Applicants must be 17 years or older

How early should I apply for the BNUR program?

  • Application opens January and ends March for the BNUR program.

Will my credits from the Certificate in Practical Nursing transfer to the Bachelor in Nursing program?

  • No, they will not transfer, they are two different programs.

I have applied to UB in the past, do I need to submit my transcript once again?
