Faculty of Management and Social Sciences

Welcome message from the Dean

Dr. Bernard Watler

On behalf of our entire faculty, staff and student body, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you from the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences of the University of Belize – Belize’s national University. As the Dean of the faculty, I would like to share a little about myself. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University College of Belize in 1991, followed by a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Valdosta State University in 1994, and a Doctor of Education with concentrations in Organizational Leadership and Higher Education from Nova Southeastern University in 2012. Over the years, I have had a variety of professional experiences, including conducting consultancies, membership on boards of organizations, and working with our nation’s youth. My hobbies include, sports, reading, and discussing current affairs. I am married to my lovely wife Noella Watler and we have a beautiful eleven year old daughter, Ayanna Aliz Watler.

The University of Belize is a multi-location institution with campuses dispersed throughout the length and breadth of this beautiful country. The Faculty of Management and Social Sciences delivers relevant programs in Belize City, Belmopan, and Punta Gorda for our students. Our faculty are dedicated professionals who love to impart knowledge and see their students succeed. Many of our adjuncts are industry professionals capable of combining theory with real world practical applications.  We pride ourselves on our ability to offer affordable, accessible, high quality education in selected business disciplines to our local as well as international populations.

Located in a region of developing Caribbean and Latin American countries, the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences of the University of Belize is faced with tremendous challenges in providing students with a solid business education that will allow them to excel in this new knowledge driven business environment in order to keep pace with the region and the rest of the world. Consequently, we continue to collaborate with industry and employers to remain relevant and produce graduates that are competent and employable.

In its efforts to remain relevant, the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences is currently reviewing a number of its programs and developing new ones. Exciting new programs that are expected to come on stream shortly includes the B. Sc. in Business Administration program with majors in finance, marketing and management as well as an MBA. Future plans are also well on the way for a B. Sc. in hospitality management and for additional majors in the B. Sc. in Business Administration in areas such as innovation and entrepreneurship, human resource management, economics, and management information systems.

Once again, on behalf of my dedicated team of lecturers, staff and student body at the faculty, I would like to welcome you and invite you to come join us at the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences.

Best Wishes,

Dr. B. Watler, Ed. D.
